Nokia N97 KL Media Launch : The Online You!?

The Online me is noisy

The Online me is childish and lame

Ha...

Everyone is unique and different in their own ways when they're accessing their computer, going into the never ending cyberspace, be it lurking, exploring, wandering, surfing, there are endless ways and no limitations.

and i guess that's part of what the N97 maker thought when they build the phone.

Early this month, on the 5th of June 2009, i attended the media launch of the Nokia Nseries N97 mobile device @ Mandarin Oriental Hotel KLCC. Yes i know, no sign of recession for Nokia either. Ha.

Well its NOKIA, and they are the largest mobile phone device company on earth and with the launch of this amazing phone, they need to have an amazing launch. Hehe.

So yea, this is the N97.

With a 3.5 inch screen Symbian base mobile device that is build for those who frequent the cyberspace, this phone have a 32GB on-board memory where you can add 16GB more via microSD. Storing a few thousand MP3 tracks and having various of online web applications installed really caught my attention since the last symbian device i had. N73.

Compared to the 16GB memory of N96 and 8GB memory of N95 8GB, this specific one is really a WOW.

I used to love it having a Symbian Mobile Device when i have N73 but the problem is because of the thickness. That's why i didn't further upgrade to a higher spec device and change to Samsung U600 instead due to its slimness.

I wasnt really amazed by N95 because of its thickness. Gah.

I wasnt really amazed by N96 as well because its still erm a bit thick.

but this specific one, N97 with a dimension of 117.2 x 5.3 x 15.9mm, this phone is slimer than N96 by 2mm and N95 by 5mm. *was aiming for 5800 previously but now since i played with N97 i would want this! xD

I wonder if they will come out with N98 nex year with 12mm height. Lolx

Anyways...

This phone is build with a QWERTY keyboard where of course the screen is a touch screen. The various range of applications for this phone where many of them are online oriented really really had me having the urge of buying this phone.

Imagine having LIVE updates from your friends from Facebook or from Twitter on their status on your home screen wherever & whenever you go. THAT of course you have to pay to access to the internet then. =)

Seriously, with a retail price of RM2480 for such a device is really pretty cheap if you ask me. Just compare with the past few Nokia Nseries device where some of them went up to RM3k when they were first released. Of course, for

Sugar Anyone?

22 April 2009 - 7.30PM onwards...

It was a night with an interesting topic altogether putting mobile email in the same line as SMS. As much as Gareth's yay to Text100, most of us were very well treated during the session. Make it a double Yay.

Though just an informal session, a few thoughts were shared on the technologies, advantages and drawbacks of mobile email. Something which i've never tried before, considering that i was still a student in the past few years, managing my email accounts on mobile phones don't really applies to me.

So while spamming, email addiction, multiple accounts and some further details on emails were discussed, what caught my attention was this...

one blogger taking out a phone with his fingers pressing some buttons smiling all by himself.

another blogger snapping a picture with his E series handphone...

then a few others having their fingers pressing the keys on their phones...

Soon, Kel Li showed me this...

I should have knew it!! The whole place was filled with frequencies where tweets were exchanged here and there. Now that's technology!!

Geoblogosphere - A wicked idea by Feedjit

All these years, more and more websites have emerged and successfully grab the attention of internet users with the rising of blogs on the internet all over the world.

Sites like Digg, StumbleUpon, Technorati, Alexa have been around for quite some time and they serve as a superb side tools for many bloggers IF you know how to use them.

Just only, i was checking Feedjit statistics and i found something rather interesting. A different idea by the team in Feedjit.

Feedjit Geoblogosphere was launched by the team not long ago.

Eversince Feedjit surfaced on the internet, thousands/millions of websites/blogs worldwide have been adding their widget onto their sites/blogs and Feedjit have used all the statistics altogether and come out with a system to track RELEVANT/POPULAR posts on different Cities.

Note that, different CITIES not COUNTRIES.

On the 16th of November 2008, they had their statistics. So when i logon to Feedjit on my computer where i'm located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, i'll see many "so called" relevant post that Feedjit system came out with the statistics they gathered.

I do find the concept/idea pretty interesting if you ask me. I do not know what you think about this but for me its still new and will this whole thing by Feedjit become into something bigger or will it disappear over a period of time?

That's up to you and me to see. =)

A Visitor From Makkah, Saudi Arab

The first season of Malaysian Dream Girl ended quite a few months ago.

Each dream girl have gone back to their own lives, some went on to pursue their dream and some taking up normal 9-5 jobs. To most of them, its a good thing as they consider themselves out of hell.

P1 WiMAX gets a Flasher and heads to Bollywood

Advertisements if created and and published in the right way and right time, it can be a big hit. Just like the YellowMan project started by Digi years ago which became the topics among people of Malaysia even till now.

Some advertisement will make u laugh, such as the ad that ends with "I taikor mah" xD

Some advertisement will make u think a lil bit more on some values such as the various petronas ads during festive season all these years.

Some advertisement are just pure crap that fail big time making you wonder why the heck they came out with this idea and this cast and this blablablababla etc.

and these videos below happens to be 2 advertisement clips by P1 WiMAX which they released it online through YouTube like 1 month ago. I know, i'm slow. I don't frequent YouTube though.

Bollywood WiMAX

This video is like its name, Bollywood style la got sing song sing song, head move here and there den dance dance lolx But what they want to tell through this video ad is with WiMAX you are free, you have the freedom, free from wired cables and you have WIRELESS connection.

From what P1 is offering currently at this point with the BIG modem, i don't see how much freedom can you gain la. Maybe this video is more suitable in the future then.



The Flasher

Then here comes the Flasher. Seriously i find this video quite disturbing. Yes they want to show people a funny video and stuffs but for me personally i think its not funny, the idea is a bit over i think. However i DO like what they are telling the people through this video, WiMAX is getting BIGGER and BIGGER.

I would love it if WiMAX DO get bigger in the future where there is a competition with Streamyx, just like the war between Celcom, Digi and Maxis.

THEN ONLY, the party who gets the biggest benefit is the people of Malaysia themself. Right?

Broadband Mobility with Wimax?

In Malaysia, there're actually a few distributors for WiMAX.

but then, almost everybody is paying more attention on P1 W1MaX and i wonder why.

Maybe because the CEO of P1 is Michael Lai who was once handling the dominating broadband service in Malaysia - Streamyx. Maybe they are the first distributor who have launched the WiMAX service in Malaysia - in the last PC Fair.

There are various reasons that attracts people to have an extra eye on P1 WiMAX.

So when we talk about WiMAX, people who have did some readings on this technology will understand that its largely related to broadband mobility which made this technology a hit in some oversea countries.

but from what i see from P1 WiMAX, lets not talk about the packages and pricing now alright, let me touch on the device alone.

when you subscribe or if you've subscribe to this P1 WiMAX broadband service, you'll know what is this device in the picture above. Its the WiMAX modem that P1 provide along when you subscribe. As you can see, the device is quite big in size and i think its heavy as well. and if you care to go online and google a bit you'll find this picture below.

Everyone must be wondering why is this going on. They have the USB modem and yet they are giving out the much more bigger size modem to the current subscriber and event label the device worthing as much as RM999. Wow. O.O

and everyone must be freaking annoyed by the fact that you CANT EXACTLY bringing this device along with your laptop going here and there to go online in KL. Its such a fuss and a pain in the ass for KL people who are walking at a faster pace, and they have to carry such a device around IN ORDER TO GO ONLINE.

Video on download speed with p1WiMAX

Most of my friends who wanted to try this WiMAX service appears to stay in places that is out of the area coverage of WiMAX at the moment.

and so all these while i cant really get informations on the performance of WiMAX service and judge that the service is good or not base on real time user usage.

Just recently i received a video from my friend, a video on YouTube posted by other user of p1WiMAX showing the download speed using p1WiMAX service.

From the video, you can see that the average speed is around 120-130 kB/s. So i think the speed of the WiMAX service is alright. But still, there're a few issue, one is the BIG BIG modem that is needed so far in p1 packages. Another issue is when there's a rain, then the service will go slow with the speed going down & disconnection happens.

anyhow, we can't really expect that much from a wireless broadband service in country like Malaysia which have quite a number of rainy days per year. =(
Now i just hope that the BIG BIG modem idea will be scrap away with a much more smaller USB modem coming out from p1.

Of course, i would like to know more informations from those who are really using the WiMAX service. Whether its p1 or other company's WiMAX service.

P1 WiMAX Launch, Pricing & Packages

Few days ago, i've mentioned about the official launch of P1 WiMAX and internet users could view the live telecast in this post here.

Due to my current internship, i couldn't make it to this launch @ Mandarin Oriental. Anyhow, ThomasYap managed to attend the launch and I heard that the whole thing went quite well with a few speeches and presentations.

There were quite a few demos there allowing the people there to see and try the WiMAX service and some information for people to understand more on the service.

Oh and i heard the service - food and stuffs were quite good that day. Hehe.

Alright, this is the main point.... P1 WiMAX Pricing and Packages

Here are the basic standard packages with price base on the speed and duration of subscription.

As you can see, there are 2 main categories. Personal and Business. Hmm i wonder how do they differentiate that. Means if you subscript for personal packages you cant use WiMAX in business areas??

and the speed - 400kbps - 700 kbps - 1.2 Mbps - 2.4 Mbps.

the price are.... to me quite pricey i would say. Yes you can online anywhere anytime with WiMAX. But please refer to the last few pictures of the launch above where you can see the size of the WiMAX modem.

Yes i can online anywhere anytime but the weight and size of a laptop is already quite a nuisance for me already and this modem adds in the trouble for me. Some of my friends would rather stick to Maxis Broadband/Umobile internet with just a small size USB Modem.

Nuff said. I do not want to elaborate more on this. Lets continue with the packages. =P

PC Fair & Wimax

Just last week, there's this happening event in the heart of KL that drove everyone crazy attending the event every year.

If you ask me, i would say that its pretty crazy. Everyone must have gone nuts.

Just look at the amount of idiots there(including me).

Gosh... you should even see the amount of humans sqeezing down there in the LRT train station, queue-ing up to buy a ticket. I was laughing HAHAHA, NOOBS... They should buy a 2 way ticket or just get a TouchNGo card bah.... O.O Really kesian man.

Anyway, when i was walking towards the hall, i notice something. Everyone, i mean almost everyone was holding a bag. Most in purple color.
*yes i went there too, i'm an idiot, flame me!

The bag was what i'm looking forward to in this specific PC fair. WiMAX.

Approached the hall where the WiMAX booth is and WHOA... the booth is quite big. With MANY people there around the booth, and the promoters were working really harding blabing about the new broadband service in town with MANY people paying attention..

I went up and try the service on one of the presetted laptop there and ha! i would say that the speed is up to my expectation, it wasnt as bad as i thought. =)

Maybe thats because of the NOT-SO-MUCH users using WiMAX at the area factor, but yes i've a pretty positive-mind on this new broadband service.

belum try belum tau, sudah try hari-hari mau.... OK THAT WAS A RANDOM ONE!!

Anyway, many of them were signing up for the free trial of WiMAX service. *shakes head* Malaysians with their i want free stuffs mindset.

OKAY FINE, MY AREA IS NOT IN THEIR COVERAGE SO I DID NOT SIGN UP!!

i am interested and i do want to sign up as well, but then just a few area have the service for now and the place i'm staying in is not in the list. =(

So, yea, anyone did subscribe and try their service already?? Mind telling me is their service good and the speed is up to expectation in your area?? If so, please please please tell me here....

Free Stuffs on Free Trial in PC Fair

Have been hearing people talking about WiMAX here and there.

I have stated some of my thoughts on it as well previously here and here.

and finally PC Fair is in town again.

Frankly speaking i don't fancy PC Fair as much as i do already. I use to.

PC Fair used to be an event where i wont become part of the sardines and sandwiches, and prices of most item will be really cheaper than usual.

Now? You'll be instant sardine when you walk into the halls and with all the hassle walking in between sweaty mammals being a moving sardine, i rather pay the normal price for something i really want so badly.

Alright enough of my craps already.

This time, the one and only reason i'm heading to PC fair is because of this "new" broadband technology in Malaysia.

The incoming of WiMAX into the market have made quite a buzz around already and they are providing free trial for public to test on the service. Even so, many people are still very skeptical on this new broadband service, including me myself.

Anyhow there's this online contest going on in conjunction of the launching of WiMAX and the period of time for this contest is as long as the period of PC Fair and i'm not amazed by the prizes.

The prizes are :
5 Canon printers (Model: IP 1300)
10 4GB PenDrives

Seriously i think that the prizes are cheap stuffs lor. A hard disk drive / LCD Monitor and etc would more likely attract my attention more on joining this contest.

A better Canon Printer or a PenDrive of higher storage might is fine with me as well. But..

IP1300?? 4GB PenDrives??

Sigh.

Anyhow, on second thought, the WiMAX service will be provided base on free trials and on top of that you'll get a chance to win "something" back home meaning that you don't have to spend a single cent and you get 2 "stuffs" for free.

OKAY lor.. We're all typical Malaysians who just love free stuffs regardless of what it is. Free tissue paper also we'll be heading home a happy person.

So yea, i'll be heading to PC Fair just for this WiMAX launch.

Complexity being simplified?

Since internet, computers and mobile phones came into my life, i cant seem to get enough of them. I believe this applies to many people as well. As years pass by, we tend to be more tied up to these stuffs and we made all these part of our life.

i am a TARC student doing my internship currently and all these years i've been taking public transport back and forth every single day and

Sometimes...


i witness an accident happening right in front of me


i heard some interesting stuffs


i saw some funny incident


i took some really cool pictures

and...............

i feel like going online and blog about it..

but i cant

Sometimes it just bothers me when i have tons of stuffs in my mind to blog about i am not able to blog at that specific time.

The internet and blogging have been such a big part of my life that i cant stand not using the internet for one whole freaking day.

Its part of my life already, my daily routine.

and somehow, i just wonder how nice it is if i can online while i'm waiting for the bus/train to come, be it either going to work or college, or maybe when i'm waiting for my food to come at a mamak/restaurant, or maybe live blog/post a vlog while participating in events/flashmob.

It would make daily life a bit more interesting if i can do so, rather than being a "kayu" waiting restlessly and might result in falling asleep as well. o.O

TMNET have been around as the BIG BOSS for years and the various wireless broadband services which surfaces don't really impress much people including me myself.

However i can still turn to my mobile phone and use it to access the internet through 3G service, but with that rate of speed and the cost coming in, it wasn't a good choice for me i would say.

and then the news of WiMaX coming into Malaysia came in and it really excites me very much. That means that i can online anywhere i like when it's fully implemented in KL city.

I wont be standing stupidly waiting for buses/trains anymore. I can surf the net whenever & wherever i like/want.

The internet and blogging have already changed my lifestyle and if WiMax is THAT good in speed & mobility wise then i think i'll use it to make my life a little more interesting each day.

Well, thats my case.

I have no idea how you lead your life each day but i'm pretty sure that many people who lives in KL is in the same situation as i am in and now i'm looking forward to the new broadband service!!

*and yea, if you ask my friends, they will tell you i'm a crazy person, i can go online surfing the net and not getting BORED without moving my ass to other place the WHOLE day.
of course, meals and toilets are exceptions. =P
