Pictures of BBOY Choco Workshop

Last month, i blogged about an upcoming workshop by one of the top Taiwanese BBOY which happened early last month.

I dropped by on the 6th of December 2008, the 2nd day during the workshop in Kepong.

Pretty inspiring and from the way he describe on how Taiwan BBOY practise, it made me go Wow.

With his current age which is 28 years old (if i'm not mistaken) and still actively involved in what he's passionate about, i'm pretty impressed.

Well, for a bit more information about him, you can read on some minor information + videos i blogged before in a previous post here.

For the rest of the post, i'll just let the pictures entertain you alright?

UGDN : New Street Dance Academy in Taipan

Last Friday, i was in this place @ Taipan. One of the branches of Urban Groove Street Dance Academy. A new one actually, just a few months old.

Urban Groove Dance Network

No sadly i do not know how to dance and do not have any knowledge on hip hop/street dance. I was there as i fetched my mom, bro and sis there so i just hang out there.

Apparently, there was this Street Dance Festival where there're a few classes offered in 3 days span(3-5 Oct 08) by a few instructors including Joel Tan the founder of UGDN as well as 3 instructors from Vibe Dance all the way from the Philipines.

View some of the workshops in progress below.

Was the workshop interesting/nice/awesome? I have no idea as i did not participate in it, i'm just somehow related to these stuffs. xD but what from i see, it was interesting. Esp the night they had last night where i heard that there were performances by the instructors themselves.

Urban Groove used to have A LOT of branches and i mean really ALOT(around 10) and with that amount of branches, there're alot of instructors as well. One of them is Fellest Yan whom i've blogged about in my previous post on H-Factor.

If you're involved in the happening scene in Malaysia years ago and have not heard of Urban Groove before then you might as well bang your head on the wall. They were one of the most happening group of dancers in Malaysia for the last few years, winning competitions at its peak and started appearing in various events performing their stunning moves and they were even exposed under the media for countless times.

One of the group that used to outshine any other people when they stepped their foot into some specific club that's what i heard.

THAT...

was in the past and after some really stormy days, things were not the same anymore. Like i've merely mentioned in my post on H-Factor before, i might or might not blog about that "drama" that happened that caused Urban Groove to shattered into pieces which made everything reverting back to square one for UGDN. =X

Anyway, thats not the main point of this post.

The main point is NOW, there's a new branch operating in Taipan, Subang (same row as Station 1 Cafe in Taipan). For those who're staying around that area and is interested in Street/HipHop Dance, you can enrol yourself to one of the class/workshop you're interested in.

Most of the other branches were closed down due to the break out and now these are the only branches left including the new one in Taipan which is still operating.

Branches :
Sunway : 45-3 Jln PJS 11/28B Bandar Sunway 46150 Petaling Jaya
Subang : No 7 2nd Floor USJ10/16 47620 Subang Jaya
Kepong : No 31-1 Jln Prima 7 Pusat Niaga Metro Prima Kepong 52100 Kuala Lumpur
Operation Hour : Everyday 3PM-10PM except Tuesday

Dance is not really my thing but well that doesn't means that its not your thing as well so if you are really interested please do approach the people below. =D

The Launching of Project H-Factor by Hannah Tan

A contemporary community service campaign. Initiated by Hannah Tan.

Codename - H Factor Nationwide Creative Youth Workshop.

Individuals : Harith Iskandar, Hans Isaac, Serena C, Pietro Felix, Reymee, Fellest Yan and Joey Khor.

and just last week - 28th September 2008, it was the media launch of the project in Werner's @ Changkat Bukit Bintang.

Not all of the involved well known personalities were there but there are enough to make the media launch a successful one.

Its really not easy to gather these bunch of people together to attend the same thing. Do not tell me stuffs like awards or dinner.

A few interviews was conducted there.

Fellest Yan, Me

this dude is one of the best hip hop dancer i know around in Malaysia. An ex-Chief Instructor of the past reigning Hip Hop group in Malaysia - Urban Groove. Met him in a few occasion already, one of the is the G4G Hip Hop Dance Conference last year. That was when he's still one of the key person in Urban Groove. That was the past then and presently, he already left the group with some other instructor.

Maybe i shall blog about that sometime in the future, some insider information on the breakout that happen among Urban Groove's instructor.

a move that was requested by some photographers there. Not ME!!

and soon they even requested a group photo to be taken.

Group Picture.

Soon, the project was launch officially with a short introduction by Hannah Tan.

A video played.

and Hannah introducing the other individuals.

I left in the midst of the event to attend another one then. Anyhow, i heard from Mike and Leonard that the event was a successful one which ended with them heading for supper talking about some really interesting topics. Lolx

So actually, what is this project all about?
"
The campaign aims to cultivate a sense of positivity among the Malaysian pop-culture community in an era where negative elements like drugs, alcoholism, free-sex and gangsterism are considered cool. Its inaugural nationwide creative youth workshop seeks to promote the positive development of creative talent among Malaysia's pop-culture society who are predominantly the youth.
-Media Release
"

this whole project will actually be a start of an annual creative youth development affair which aims to impact the local industry for the better where different workshops will be conducted by the various personalities to serve the public, especially youths in order for them to learn all the so called "cool" stuffs in a positive way at the same time developing their field of creativity.

Individuals being experts in their field :

Comedy & Theatre : Harith Iskandar
Film & Acting : Hans Isaac
Radio : Serena C & Pietro Felix
Music : Reymee
TV Hosting : Hannah Tan
Dance : Fellest Yan
Motion Graphics & Animation : Joey Khor
Mentalist & Magician : David Lai

Workshops will be held in 4 major cities in Malaysia
Penang - 12th October
Johor Bahru - 19th October
Kota Kinabalu - 26th October
Kuala Lumpur - 2nd November

*the organizing team are in need of volunteers with computer and technical knowledge to help out at each of the various venues. Interested individuals can email their details to catchme@hannahtan.com or contact the Campaign Event Manager, Jessica Choong at +6019-3561111

My personal say on this project, it is a project that was initiated with good intentions, with the likes of those personalities, i would give it a try if i'm free. Too bad i'm going to resume back to my busy college life next week.
