Broadband Mobility with Wimax?

In Malaysia, there're actually a few distributors for WiMAX.

but then, almost everybody is paying more attention on P1 W1MaX and i wonder why.

Maybe because the CEO of P1 is Michael Lai who was once handling the dominating broadband service in Malaysia - Streamyx. Maybe they are the first distributor who have launched the WiMAX service in Malaysia - in the last PC Fair.

There are various reasons that attracts people to have an extra eye on P1 WiMAX.

So when we talk about WiMAX, people who have did some readings on this technology will understand that its largely related to broadband mobility which made this technology a hit in some oversea countries.

but from what i see from P1 WiMAX, lets not talk about the packages and pricing now alright, let me touch on the device alone.

when you subscribe or if you've subscribe to this P1 WiMAX broadband service, you'll know what is this device in the picture above. Its the WiMAX modem that P1 provide along when you subscribe. As you can see, the device is quite big in size and i think its heavy as well. and if you care to go online and google a bit you'll find this picture below.

Everyone must be wondering why is this going on. They have the USB modem and yet they are giving out the much more bigger size modem to the current subscriber and event label the device worthing as much as RM999. Wow. O.O

and everyone must be freaking annoyed by the fact that you CANT EXACTLY bringing this device along with your laptop going here and there to go online in KL. Its such a fuss and a pain in the ass for KL people who are walking at a faster pace, and they have to carry such a device around IN ORDER TO GO ONLINE.

where is the broadband mobility?

i dont get it. =(

Bye Bye Twitter, Temporarily or Indefinitely?

We Twitter users in Malaysia will still receive updates though, but only through web then. Not through mobile phones. ='(

PC Fair & Wimax

Just last week, there's this happening event in the heart of KL that drove everyone crazy attending the event every year.

If you ask me, i would say that its pretty crazy. Everyone must have gone nuts.

Just look at the amount of idiots there(including me).

Gosh... you should even see the amount of humans sqeezing down there in the LRT train station, queue-ing up to buy a ticket. I was laughing HAHAHA, NOOBS... They should buy a 2 way ticket or just get a TouchNGo card bah.... O.O Really kesian man.

Anyway, when i was walking towards the hall, i notice something. Everyone, i mean almost everyone was holding a bag. Most in purple color.
*yes i went there too, i'm an idiot, flame me!

The bag was what i'm looking forward to in this specific PC fair. WiMAX.

Approached the hall where the WiMAX booth is and WHOA... the booth is quite big. With MANY people there around the booth, and the promoters were working really harding blabing about the new broadband service in town with MANY people paying attention..

I went up and try the service on one of the presetted laptop there and ha! i would say that the speed is up to my expectation, it wasnt as bad as i thought. =)

Maybe thats because of the NOT-SO-MUCH users using WiMAX at the area factor, but yes i've a pretty positive-mind on this new broadband service.

belum try belum tau, sudah try hari-hari mau.... OK THAT WAS A RANDOM ONE!!

Anyway, many of them were signing up for the free trial of WiMAX service. *shakes head* Malaysians with their i want free stuffs mindset.

OKAY FINE, MY AREA IS NOT IN THEIR COVERAGE SO I DID NOT SIGN UP!!

i am interested and i do want to sign up as well, but then just a few area have the service for now and the place i'm staying in is not in the list. =(

So, yea, anyone did subscribe and try their service already?? Mind telling me is their service good and the speed is up to expectation in your area?? If so, please please please tell me here....

Complexity being simplified?

Since internet, computers and mobile phones came into my life, i cant seem to get enough of them. I believe this applies to many people as well. As years pass by, we tend to be more tied up to these stuffs and we made all these part of our life.

i am a TARC student doing my internship currently and all these years i've been taking public transport back and forth every single day and

Sometimes...


i witness an accident happening right in front of me


i heard some interesting stuffs


i saw some funny incident


i took some really cool pictures

and...............

i feel like going online and blog about it..

but i cant

Sometimes it just bothers me when i have tons of stuffs in my mind to blog about i am not able to blog at that specific time.

The internet and blogging have been such a big part of my life that i cant stand not using the internet for one whole freaking day.

Its part of my life already, my daily routine.

and somehow, i just wonder how nice it is if i can online while i'm waiting for the bus/train to come, be it either going to work or college, or maybe when i'm waiting for my food to come at a mamak/restaurant, or maybe live blog/post a vlog while participating in events/flashmob.

It would make daily life a bit more interesting if i can do so, rather than being a "kayu" waiting restlessly and might result in falling asleep as well. o.O

TMNET have been around as the BIG BOSS for years and the various wireless broadband services which surfaces don't really impress much people including me myself.

However i can still turn to my mobile phone and use it to access the internet through 3G service, but with that rate of speed and the cost coming in, it wasn't a good choice for me i would say.

and then the news of WiMaX coming into Malaysia came in and it really excites me very much. That means that i can online anywhere i like when it's fully implemented in KL city.

I wont be standing stupidly waiting for buses/trains anymore. I can surf the net whenever & wherever i like/want.

The internet and blogging have already changed my lifestyle and if WiMax is THAT good in speed & mobility wise then i think i'll use it to make my life a little more interesting each day.

Well, thats my case.

I have no idea how you lead your life each day but i'm pretty sure that many people who lives in KL is in the same situation as i am in and now i'm looking forward to the new broadband service!!

*and yea, if you ask my friends, they will tell you i'm a crazy person, i can go online surfing the net and not getting BORED without moving my ass to other place the WHOLE day.
of course, meals and toilets are exceptions. =P

Cost on WiMAX

Actually sometimes i wonder that is it good that TmNet is monopolizing the internet market in Malaysia.

Definitely, there'll be more complaints than praises, but i've come across some friends of mine who have zero unsatisfaction on Streamyx.

Very often we'll tend to remember the negative stuffs compare to the positive ones. But i guess people will forget about those stuffs when there's something new. Human does that all the times.

Every now and then, especially recently, there're more and more new packages on broadband internet, be it wireless ones or otherwise, there're new players such as UMobile and Izzi.. With the welcoming of WiMAX, i couldnt help but to wonder how much will the packages/subscription cost.

Rather than guessing on it, lets be practical here. For sure, the speed of WiMAX will be the highest when its officially launch, so if we think towards that direction, the subscription fee/cost of WiMAX SHOULD BE much higher than other existing broadband service in Malaysia.

To many people out there, that would be a big issue. With the raise of price of various items in the current market, a higher price to use WiMAX will definitely bring failure to the whole project itself.

Okay then. Fine. So it should be around erm, lets say RM88 or probably lower than that. Then only people will consider using it. Ahh but again, its a type of WIRELESS broadband and wireless connections tends to get disconnected from time to time especially during the rain.

Rain is quite a norm for us Malaysians, ah DARN!!! HOW??

I assume that they promise us STABLE connection with the use of WiMAX then.

Ahhhhh, then thats a totally different thing!!! People would be dying to use the service. Maybe even at RM100, people would be paying happily for a STABLE connection with HIGHER connection speed.

Lolz, all those are just my sudden thoughts, we won't know what and how WiMAX will be when its launched. I just hope that the cost will be affordable for everyone then. And on top of that, the payment method for the bills/subscription will be relatively easy. Easy like paying online or just going to a nearby ATM/7-Eleven to pay and convert money into WiMAX points.

Am i thinking too much?? Hmmm we'll see. =)

why max? WiMAX

If i tell you that 60%+ of the internet users in Malaysia are still on dial up speed which is just 56kBps, do you believe it?

Ask me how i knew that? it is a long story. There is a few months, i was going either from house to house or company to company, pitching to the people on Streamyx.

YES, i was once a Streamyx reseller, so i have some statistics of the internet services in Malaysia. Thats it, case close on my past.

Well thats the rough statistics 2 years ago. I have no idea whats the statistic in the past few months but i'm pretty sure that many more have converted to broadband users. Just look at how the opposition won in the general election early this year and if you notice and do some fact finding research, the opposition used the internet as their weapon and they were very clever of doing so.

Okay, enough of the crapping. What i'm gonna say here in this post is about WiMAX.

All these while TM have been monopolizing the Malaysian market on internet usage. I'm sure you have heard the thousand complaints on Streamyx a couple of times before and many Streamyx users were pissed off but they cant do anything with it because TMNET is the BIG player on internet in Malaysia.

and FINALLY, early this year, it was set that WiMAX is making its way into Malaysia.

Believe me, many other people who have been following the news of WiMAX in Malaysia will be laughing at TM like the Joker. WHY SO SERIOUS??

For your information..

WiMAX is a BIG project from the government, a real big project i would say! The government have thrown in Millions for this WiMAX project.

Alright so what's WiMAX?? It must be something big right?? Thats why so many companies including the BIG ONES like MAXIS, DiGI, and TM are fighting for it previously.

I myself was quite a stranger towards WiMAX as well and i was pretty interested in it so i did a small little research. I hope i'm not wrong as i've come across many technical stuffs.

So i shall make this simple as possible!!!

WiMAX is a type of broadband internet technology but the technology is different from WiFi, Streamyx 3G, EDGE and etc....

Blur? Alright...

Most of the people around uses and know what is WiFi and 3G right?? I shall assume that you know. Look at the diagram posted below.

As you can see, there's this comparison between 3G, WiFi and WiMAX where WiMAX outshine both 3G and WiFi.

Why i say WiMAX outshine both 3G and WiFi

3G - 140KM with 384Kbps = 0.3MBps
WiFi - 10M with Max 11Mbps = 1.375MBps
WiMAX - 70KM with 70Mbps = 8.75MBps

now you might think that the coverage area of WiMAX is not as wide as 3G, so how?

Here's another diagram on how WiMAX works..

and so YES, just like the wireless broadband service out there - Maxis Broadband, Celcom Broadband, Izzinet and etc... There'll be "connection points" build to transmit the frequency to users.

Now, imagine WiMAX "connection points"stations build all around in KL area.....

EVERYONE GET TO USE the internet connected through WiMAX connection points!! and the best thing is the speed can go up to 8MBps.

HIGH SPEED INTERNET FOR EVERYONE TO USE EVERYWHERE!!

How Cool is that???

I shall say that not only its cool, its a good start!!!

A GOOD START TO STOP THE MONOPOLIZING OF TMNUT IN MALAYSIA!!
