Time Out KL On The Up Jan 2009

It was the first Time Out KL Music Night of the year. A monthly event by Time Out KL which is held in the heart of KL, a venue with the name No Black Tie every 3rd Wednesday of the month.

i was with the usual peeps chilling there that night.

Aaron and David taking pictures with Nigel video recording, it was quite an interesting night i would say.

2StoreyHeart was the first that kept us entertained. Except for the screams he had during his performance, i thought that he is all fine. His songs were a bit emo though, perhaps because of his own life where he was heartbroken back in last year.

Talking about broken, Broken Scar the next performers rocked us that night. Like totally. With Kevin, Alda, Zach, and Alex + an extra performer, the violinist, they made quite a good band and played some really awesome music that night.

and i was even awake at 4.40am that night listening to their songs. Lolx

After an awesome rock session by Broken Scar, we had a totally different performance by the next one, Izzy Mohamed. A more slow tune, some pretty soft and nice songs were displayed. Izzy got a nice voice, just not that distinctive enough that's all. Apart from that, everything was nice and i enjoyed it. Some contrast between the performance by the previous band and this performance.

Secret Love Affair was the next and last performers. Though their music on the instrument was nice, they sucked at their vocals and lyrics. Nuff Said.

At the end of the night, i was still pretty amazed by Broken Scar's performance. Of course, the others were okay as well, just that there's much more place to improve for them.

am looking forward to the next Time Out Music Night! =D

KL : Support Local Stand Up Comedy?

Last Thursday, there was this stand up comedy act at this little place with the name Little Havana right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Its the first Time Out Comedy Thursday Night of 2009 so well, of course must support a bit right?

and apparently, there were quite a number of people who thought the same way as i do. Despite the normal working stress life in Kuala Lumpur, many of the people made their time to Little Havana to attend this very session of comedy night.

before start

10 minutes after it starts

it was a packed night with 115 people attending that night.

but

Today, i won't be talking much about the acts of those who performed. I'll talk a bit more of other stuffs.

Having myself attending for just a handful of session of such act really made me think that Kuala Lumpur is an awesome place with lots of talents, though most of them needs real much practice =P. but do you know that such acts have been really welcomed by the public around the City of Kuala Lumpur and it was even pretty big in Petaling Jaya a few years back, with other stand up comedy performers.

HOWEVER, somehow sometime, those acts stop all of a sudden where cafes and bars owners stopped hiring such people to performed in their own premises. For God know what reason, there was not much support towards the local stand up comedy scene after that.

and just recently, well start from mid of year 2008, Time Out KL made an initiative to start such an event to promote and support the local scene which in my opinion is somewhat something good, at least its some side income for the performers and that's what that's encouraging them in what are they doing : STAND UP COMEDY.

I'm pretty sure most of you Malaysians will know who is Harith Iskandar or Douglas Lim right? Those who saw them performed before will mostly have a positive comment about them, but its just them..... You don't see or hear much about other name alongside these 2 personalities already as they are the very few well known personalities as a Stand Up Comedian.

What happen one day if Harith retires and decided not to entertain the public already?

So here comes the next generation of Young Comedians but before they can make it, they are really having a hard time in the local industry.

At the end of day, i'm writing all this here just to send a very simple message out, Do support local talents, of course out of your own will that is. =)

come come laugh laugh together gather

Whether you accept it or not, its already 2009 and we have to look forward and move on. With all the negative news covering the headlines especially those about financial downfall and etc, most people don't really welcome the year of 2009.

Having headaches and facing lots of problems altogether getting stuck at a dead end having no idea on how or what to do?

Get out of the hectic life in KL and head to Little Havana this very Thursday (tomorrow la!!) just to get some fresh air and relax yourself. It won't take much of your time and you could actually have a few laughs enjoying the start of 2009 and who knows, you might solve the problems you faced with that few laugh. =P

Its proven that people who is positive minded and happy is able to solve their problems easier than those who are always negative minded. heee

after all its just RM10 [Click Here for more Info]

So why not come come laugh laugh together gather? xD

See You There!!~

Last Time Out KL Comedy Night of 2008

If you do not know it yet, there's a Magazine in town which is quite new, well not exactly as this magazine have like eons of histories in other cities but anyway the Kuala Lumpur version of this magazine is still a few months old.

Yet, the team working on the magazine have been doing quite a good job i would say after reading a few issues of the magazine which i particularly like the way how they tell about the stuffs in Kuala Lumpur.

and for your information, they have been conducting 2 events each month for a few months already. The comedy night and the music night which features local comedians as well as local bands/musicians.

Talking about the response, you need to be there to feel it yourself. Though i just attended a handful of TimeOut KL events, i can already feel the support of the public towards these local talents and i'm pretty proud of it.

So yea, last week i attended this Comedy Night on Thursday and Zac, one of the local stand-up comedians was the first one to entertain the crowd and i think that because he's a last minute replacement for another comedian, he didn't really prepared so the flow of his jokes were like not so smooth. I still enjoy the jokes. =D

This is the man!! CHI HO!! To me, he's like one of those people who will make me laugh instantly when i see them!! He's really good in what he's doing.

The facial expression..

The hand gestures and movements and etc...

He did it like he's been doing stand-up comedies for a long time and i really enjoyed watchin and listening to his act. He's all natural and....

He even showed the crowd why Michael Jackson don't know how to dance. HAHA. I totally enjoyed while him being in front and i'm pretty sure that most people there felt the same way too!!

The next one, Davina was a total letdown. A certain level of screaming and being exaggerated that is just nice will be just fine, but when you scream too much and like being over-exaggerated...

It will make people go WTF.... i even heard some people saying that if she were to perform in the states, people would boo at her and ask her to go away and shooo..... YES she was that bad! =(

But anyway, it was her birthday last Tuesday and the peeps that were from the same comedy group decided to throw a small little mini party for her which where the crowd sang a belated birthday song to her.

and i don't understand why, she have to make this expression...

well, if that makes her happy =)

Anyway, after the disappointment, Kavin which was the up next performer did entertain the crowd which get many people laughing there. Maybe he's an Indian himself and Indians are just good at telling jokes? aha...

Jimmy. He was the last comedian to entertain us that night. Someone who've been entertaining people in different cities in different countries and he's good at doing it as well. A rather different approach where he sings song in the middle. =D

A rather nasty song towards the Singaporeans. Ha..

and so yea, i did enjoy myself once again on a Time Out KL comedy night. Despite the not-so-good performance by Davina, Chi Ho really did a very very good job and i really like his jokes. Lolx.

Yeap, so, that's the very last Time Out KL Comedy Night of year 2008 and i hope that in 2009 i'll see more and more interesting talents coming in and again, i need to say this...

A good job to the people at TimeOut KL!

Some local Stand-up Comedy Perhaps?

Last Thursday was rather different. I was out at night to relax myself listening to some comedy acts by some local individuals.

It was quite a hidden place. At least to me it is. I don't really know that there's this place in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. A rather small and cozy venue during normal working hours.

But that night, it was different.

The whole place was packed with people till they have to stop people coming in from the entrance. I didn't know that local personalities would receive such a big response. Even from people from the overseas.

A bid thanks to TimeOut of course for these people to have an own stage of their own.

These are the people who was entertaining us the whole night. Faisal, Yugi, Alfred and Zac were the ones who shared jokes that can be applied to the people in Malaysia. Yes, some of the people from oversea was confused at some point of the jokes.

The latest bond movie quantum of solace have a malay translation "Ketenangan Di Dunia Yang Penuh Kesengsaraan" and Spiderman is "Orang Labah-Labah"

But do you know what is Spiderman 3 in Malay?

3 orang labah-labah....

That's one small little part of the entertaining night which caught the laugh and smiles of Malaysians but not the people from overseas as they were puzzled.

Aha!!

Of course, the host of the night was great as he was there to ensure the night went well. Awesome job. =)

at the end of the day, this is the most important thing. The companies i had that night.

Along with me - HsuJen, Yatz, Kelli, Nigel, David, Aaron, Simon.

it was awesome right?? =D

and yea before i forgot, Time Out Comedy Thursday happens every 1st Thursday of the month and its only RM20 per entry. A break out from the hectic & stressful life in KL for just RM20 isn't that bad right??

But if that's bad for you, then this would be a good news. You can have a 50% discount. Head here for more information!

If RM10 is still a problem for you then, go ahead and bang your head on the wall alright? =)

During one of the breaks. xD

So, i assume that i will see you the next Comedy Thursday aite?? =)
